The setup of this BRIGHTFUN zigbee hub was a bit confusing. There are about 5 Smart Life apps, but the good thing is the QR code in the instructions will point to the right one. However, when adding the gateway to the app, there are 9 gateways to choose from. Even though the gateway device itself is labeled as a multi-mode gateway, I couldn’t get it connected to the app selecting the “Multimode Gateway”. I successfully added and updated the firmware by choosing the “Wireless Gateway (BLE)”. See photo.

The media could not be loaded. I’ve been considering trying Zigbee for my smart home, despite already having WiFi devices connected to my Google Hub. Zigbee promises some potential benefits like better device compatibility, extended range, and reduced WiFi congestion. So, I decided to give the Multimode Gateway a try, even though I haven’t had the chance to test it with other Zigbee devices yet.One thing that caught my attention about this gateway is its versatility. It’s designed to work with various types of devices, such as lights, locks, and sensors, even if they use different technologies. Everything can be controlled through the Smart Life app. Additionally, it’s capable of handling up to 128 devices, leaving room for future expansion.While I haven’t had the opportunity to test the gateway with other Zigbee devices yet, the concept of controlling smart devices from my phone and its compatibility with voice assistants like Alexa and Google Assistant is appealing.In early testing setting up the gateway was straightforward, and no special technical skills were required. It’s worth noting that it comes with a one-year warranty for added peace of mind.In summary, I’m looking forward to exploring the capabilities of the Multimode Gateway as I consider incorporating Zigbee into my smart home setup. While I haven’t fully tested it with other Zigbee devices, its versatility and user-friendly features seem promising.
