After 2 years of daily use, I want to revise the comments I posted shortly after purchasing this mug.It is not good, it is great. The design and construction are bulletproof.I easily adapted to the design differences between this mug and the typical insulated coffee mug. After two years of daily use in harsh conditions, the mug still looks new and doesn’t leak a drop.I am now convinced that this is the best insulated mug produced. My original review follows:The Burnout travel coffee mug is quite good.It relies on the same principle that we can all observe in the evening after a sunny day: a heat sink. ( Or, more accurately, the first law of thermodynamics / the law of conservation of energy).Just as your concrete driveway, patio or a brick wall exposed to the sun all day will radiate heat for some time after sunset, this mug, through the use of materials which efficiently absorb heat, gradually releases the heat over a period of hours, thus keeping the contents of the mug warm. .In order for this mug to perform as intended, you MUST preheat the container (mug) with hot water. If you don’t do this, the mug will still efficiently absorb heat from your coffee, and gradually release it back, but this will result in lukewarm coffee for an extended period of time.As you may note from my photo, I supplement the mugs insulation with a beer cozy, as I am a very slow coffee drinker. This mug works. (obviously, as it relies on scientific principles- the system is as predictable as gravity). The great thing about the mug is that it works AND it is almost identical in size to much more common, but far less effective, travel mugs.I tried a very expensive battery powered mug which was astoundingly large and heavy, but which had a smaller capacity than the Burnout mug.The battery powered unit was not only clumsy, it failed to keep my coffee warm enough to enjoy for more than 2-3 hours. In contrast, the Burnout mug unfailingly keeps my coffee at either the “just right” temperature or very slightly lower temperature for 4+ hours -as long as I properly preheat the mug.For me, this mug has only two negatives. Over many, many years of coffee drinking, I have muscle memory which causes me to slide the closing mechanism toward from the drink side of the mug in order to close the cap. This mug closes very well, never leaked, but is closed by moving the slide away from the opening. I guess this is not a really a design issue, rather it is an issue related to a long ingrained habit I have developed. But, as a result I’ve had a few spills and the accompanying curses. The second issue is the lip of the mug. It is quite sleek. If it protruded about 1/16” of an inch further, I think it would be perfect. As it is presently designed, it is pretty easy to accidentally “lose” a drop or two with each sip if I’m not paying attention. I have not experienced this issue with other travel mugs.Summary: I love the mug, it is built like a locomotive and should last my lifetime, it can’t stop working and is good looking. A Tiny design change would make it the perfect mug, but I would absolutely purchase it again, as it is presently designed.

I originally posted a negative one star review because I found that the lid opening lever is a weakpoint. A simple thermos knock over sitting on the floor caused it to break and now the thermos was not pleasant to use. My review was poor because I sent an email to their customer service and didn’t get a reply. Apparently now two months later, I received a couple follow ups that they did indeed reach out but I never saw the replies. Why I see it now and hadn’t seen them before, I don’t know but I do get a ton of spam emails daily. So maybe it was just luck.Regardless, my wife and I still use the products daily and they work as expected. We love them. Keeps our ginger lemon tea we make daily, hot and comfortable throughout our work day. I definitely recommend them. Because of their efforts to reach out and willingness to help I have updated my review score.**** Original ReviewI bought two units for my wife and I and we use them daily. They work as advertised and love them despite the fact they are heavier than a similar capacity thermos. A few days ago my wife’s thermos was sitting next to the couch as pictured here and our small Yorkie knocked it over, and the red cap broke off. So now the cap won’t stay open without holding it down. I figured I’d just order a new one but on the listing it stated it qualified for a lifetime warranty. I sent an email to help@burnoutmugs.com on April 19 at 1:29pm PST. 3 days later and still no reply. I ordered another lid reluctantly but concerned it could break again simply by the thermos being knocked over on its side. I don’t like knocking companies for bad support because it seems the norm these days but I spent nearly $200 for these less than 2 months ago and a little piece of plastic makes using this product less desirable.

I just ordered my second Burnout Travel Mug. I received my first a year or two ago as a gift from my son, who knows how much I like good hot, but not McDonalds-hot coffee. Then, when at the Travel Show in Dallas over the weekend, I managed to leave it at one of the booths. Since the mug is the absolute best travel coffee mug I have ever had, I had to immediately order the replacement. The mug works exactly as advertised. I know that it seems expensive, but it will soon become your favorite travel coffee mug. Just be careful not to lose it.

First bit of advice, READ the instructions for this thing! The first time I used it, I wasn’t impressed and even considered sending it back given the price I had paid. And then, I read the instructions. I know what you’re thinking, it’s a coffee tumbler, what do you need instructions for? Anyway, after adhering to the instructions, this thing works way better than anything out there. Keeps hot beverages hot much longer than ordinary tumblers. And, as always, the best part is that it’s made in the USA! Support American workers, BUY AMERICAN MADE!

I bought this as a birthday present for myself because I like hot coffee when I go to lunch at work. The 1st few months it did keep my coffee hot until lunch. About 5 hours later. When I noticed that after some months the coffee wasn’t hot anymore I decided to put hot water in it 1st to warm up the thermos type mug. Needless to say 8 months later my coffee is almost cold when I go to drink it on my lunch break.. Thank God I also take a thermos of coffee with me since I drink a lot of coffee on my lunch break. The thermos does keep the coffee very very hot. This burnout mug was great at 1st but I have no feelings of positivity for it now. And like some of the other reviews say the design of the lid does suck. it feels like it’s pushing my top lip and my teeth somewhere else. it’s not a natural feel when drinking. Of course I did not like how heavy the mug is but if it’s going to keep my coffee hot and at a consistent temperature so that it doesn’t taste bitter when I go to drink it hours later then I don’t mind. Plz fix the lid especially. I will keep using my thermos. I will keep using this cup because I don’t want to spend that much money on another brand to see if it will work.

This mug is worth the money, period!

First time out was a fail…even though I washed the mug with hot soapy water and rinsed repeatedly with hot water before it was used, the coffee cooled off rapidly and within about 30 minutes was barely luke warm. I will try again and revisit this review. I purchased 2 of these and we’ve only tried one so far.So today I tested the other one I purchased…3 hours now and my coffee is still at a great drinking temperature, so I would so it is a huge success! I will retry the first one tomorrow. Now the only thing that is off-putting for me is the lid. I like a thin “mouth” portion. This lid is too thick where you drink. Aside from the lid issue I am satisfied with my Burnout!

After tiring of my coffee quickly going from hot to tepid, I started looking at rechargeable/electric heated travel mugs. Tried 2 different brands. Returned both, and stumbled across the Burnout mug and took a chance. I’ve got several insulated thermos’ and had no patience for waiting while they cooled off. Keep taking a small sip and finding it’s still too hot. Problem solved with the Burnout. I pour hot coffee/tea in when it’s ~185 degrees and measure it again moments later and it’s at 160. Sometimes in the 150’s. All measured with a good quality (ThermoWorks) kitchen thermometer. But that’s just me being anal. Long story short, my 12 ounce Burnout mug is now my daily mug. I fill it 4 times every morning and enjoy hot coffee from the first sip until it’s empty each time (but not too hot, which is the whole point). I love it. And now I got myself a 16 ounce version so that when I make tea, I can use 2 tea bags (each meant to make an 8 ounce cup of tea). Same results. Very happy to see to that these are Make in USA. Unlike Yeti, which is made in China. Highly Recommended!

I like my coffee hot. So, it’s counterintuitive to want a mug to take heat away, but after I pre-charge it with my first cup(per instructions), it maintains a hotter temp waaaayyyyy longer! I tend to drink a large cup or two in the morning, then sip coffee the rest of the day. There is nothing worse than getting entranced in a project, or stuck in meeting to come back to a cool, bitter tasting cup of coffee.Experiment: 8-9-18I did a quick experiment and it took boiling water down 45 degrees in 2 minutes!!! I’m letting it sit right now, so I’ll have to update later. I’ll give my 2,4,6,8 hour drink temps!*****update**** 8-10-18 I lost track of time working on a home project and took a temp at 6 hours (I think it was 127 – so much for my memory) and then this morning, right now at 13 hours, it’s at 107!!! My home temp is set to 72. This leads me to wonder. It might be possible to precharge this and have the residual heat “float” for multiple days?*** 25 hour later update – so after 25 hours of sitting in 72 degree temperatures, it still measures 87 degrees. That’s pretty impressive. My suggestion: if you have a keurig, run a batch of hot water (without coffee) first if you like your coffee really hot all day.I did read that Starbucks will fill it cheaper if you bring your own cup. I’ve been wasting a lot of coffee. I love my Starbucks, but man It’s so hot, it’s undrinkable at first!

I purchased this mostly because I’ve been looking for a travel cup that will keep my coffee hot more then just a couple of hours. I’m a truck driver and coffee is my best friend! What ever the rocket scientist did it works just like they say. I’ve had coffee still hot six hours later. Amazing!!! Stop buying the cheap travel cup and spend the money for something that stands up to every day use! I would without a doubt highly recommend this product. On top of that, you get a lifetime warranty. Can’t ask for a better product.
