Dear Prospective Owner of this De’Longhi A/C,(cue background music:) ♪ It’s like a heat wave ♪I purchased this through Amazon, although it can be cheaper bought directly, but I wanted it sooner and, frankly, Amazon can be better with deliveries and returns, imho.Don’t be fooled by the strapping young lad who carries this over his shoulder to your door-step. This is frick’n heavy. I couldn’t lift the box to carry it inside. What ever protein shakes and such that they are doing to these Amazon delivery guys.. I don’t know. So, thankfully, this device has wheels, so unboxing it where it is and pushing it where you need it to be is a huge plus.OK, now I only found this out after it was delivered and turned on… if this had a chance of being shipped on its side or whatever and not upright. LET IT REST UPRIGHT for at least 6 hours before turning on so the oil can filter back down to the compressor. Or else, you might ruin the compressor. (I did not have this prob, it’s just noted in the manual.)Now that you have burnt 3,000 cal man-handling this contraption into place and removed all the weird tape and shtuff on it. It has to be vented. Shorter distance the better. I have an old pet door (RIP Spanky the monkey!) that hasn’t been used in years that happens to be a convenient exhaust portal.Thankfully, unless in a humid environment, you don’t have to do trips to the whatevers to do repeated emptying of a water bucket. It self-evaporates. 👏 👏 👏This contraption blows air almost straight up.. which can be a bit annoying, depending on the deployment of said contraption. But, it is effective, albeit loud like any A/C unit.PROS:- Sort of looks like a Penguin if you squint your eyes a bit.- Cools well, albeit, you have to be patient, but it’s like any other A/C of this range.- Has wheels!- NO EMPTYING BUCKETS, this is actually pretty neat. Last unit I had needed a lot of maintenance.- Remote is a little bit of a gimmick and not always reliable, but cool (pun intended)CONS:- Heavy. Like, you seriously might need help getting this into place if you aren’t in the WWE or work for Amazon Freight™.- Points air UP, which, I know the ceiling could use a little more attention, but you might end up using the excessive packaging cardboard to fashion a 90 degree duct to blow the air where you want. (seriously)- Kind of expensive, but relatively OK for gadgets in this genre.4.5/5

The touch-control remote isn’t as sensitive as the touch buttons on the console itself. The air conditioner is decently quiet and gets quieter on the whisper mode or eco mode. This air conditioner outputs air pretty well and it’s chilled how you expect an air conditioner to work. However I just received it yesterday in 75 degree weather in oregon. Not overloaded with humidity or anything I just wanted to try it when i got it. I waited 12 hours from when it got shipped to me to start it even though it looked like it was held upright and taken care of during shipping. Worked great, ran it for 2 hours on the bottom floor of my apartment. However i start it the next day and I’m greeted by a smell that can only be described as “fish”. Not fishy but exactly like fish. The smell might go away, I’ll even try cleaning the filter and I’ll update an edit with how it goes in the near future. I just think it’s not great that after 2 hours of operation and 24 hours in not that humid of setting equals fish smell. The unit so far is great and the only thing is this random fish smell. I haven’t had to use it yet but I can’t Express how important getting a supplementary protection plan is. Theres a 4 year coverage option available that covers for 4 years. You get 2 years of coverage from the manufacturer and the plan is supposed to “take over” once that 2 years is up. The plan says they’ll cover everything including shipping. Idk if they’ll cover shipping while the manufacturers coverage is active but even so. Its expensive to ship a like 80 pound item and with something this expensive to buy I’d rather wait 2 years to have it covered and fixed than pay even more in shipping than the protection plan costs. Also let’s be real. Within 4 years it’s likely you’ll need servicing anyways. Just wanted to give a heads up to future buyers.Edit: the fish smell was gone when I ran it the day after. Idk what’s up with that. It may or may not come back. However before purchasing I wanted to let future customers know not to compare their air conditioners or window units directly to portables. WINDOW UNITS ARE INHERENTLY BETTER. With how they are manufactured and operate is different. Portables arent on the same level and if you’re expecting the same result you’re in for a bad time. Do your research. Single hose portables draw in air from inside and can cause air from outside to be drawn in. Dual hose units draw in air from the outside and avoid this problem. Getting an air conditioner depends on your humidity, area of room you’re trying to cover and the efficiency of the air conditioner itself. Keep in mind that portables were forced to have a different rating system from regular air conditioners and to look and verify the new ratings before purchase. For the price of single hose units this one appears to be the best if you cant go above $500-$600. Not many dual hose units seem to be available. However don’t get a portable and expect it to be just as good as a unit that if through a window or roof. This unit pushes out cold air and at a decent volume. May not make your whole area an ice box but if it can cool it from 90-100 degrees to a more manageable 70-80 it’s still worth it if you cant have anything other than a portable unit.Second edit: I’ve used this unit multiple times and only had a fishy smell the one time. Still don’t know what that was about. However the air conditioner is good, has run clean of any smells since then and has done a good job of cooling off my livingroom / kitchen / downstairs area of my apartment. This seems to be the best buy that actually cools around this price range, going any higher will cost you a lot more. I’ve changed my review to five stars since that random fish smell hasn’t been an issue and everything has worked as expected. Kinda sad the touch remote isn’t as sensitive as the console itself but that’s just me and I won’t knock off a star for that as it still works reliably. Overall I’m happy about it even if it did cost a lot of money. Worth a try for anyone that can’t have a window unit or similar.

I spent many hours doing homework on portable AC units. And I must say that 90% of them really do not match the hype they try and sell. When it came to the De’Longhi 14000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner, I was reading a large amount of reviews praising the unit and a smaller amount really unhappy with it. I can tell you first hand that this unit outmatches any of the other brands I have used before. (12 major brands in the last 4 years on jobs)But in order to get the max performance you will need a hose insulation like this one here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07X85CTPX/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1If you use the insulation it reduces how much heat is being let back into the area. Those bare venting hose runs around 100 – 105° F. With the insulation it runs around 70 – 88° F. (Temperature changes based on temperature of the weather at the time of use. My tests were run with outside temperatures ranging from 90 – 103° F in Oregon conditions) Huge savings with it comes down to it. I used the unit without it and recorded the temperature in the room. Set at 70° F the unit was able to keep the 300 sq ft room around 72 – 75° F but never really reached the 70° F temp it was set to. After the insulation was placed on the duct it dropped to 70° F within just about 10 mins of run time. This unit is cooling about 800 sq ft of an apartment with very little issue. I place the remote in the middle of the living room while the AC is about 30 feet away. (We had 5 people in the apartment during these tests) It keeps track of the temp at the remote and at the AC unit. It matches until the remote sensor is reading the temp that you have set for ideal.Setting at 74° F seems to be the ideal temperature that works for larger areas. It is not a huge power drain either.A bit on the spendy side? Yes. Worth it? Hell yeah!!Some reviewers might have gotten a faulty unit but the one I received works great.I cannot recommend this De’Longhi 14000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner enough.(Update: Edit)Years later and we bought a second unit. One thing I have learned since my first review is that the units DO fill with water quickly when it is humid outside. It is best to elevate the unit and run a drainage hose out of the window. The dehumidifier works amazingly well and can pull upwards of 1-2 gallons of water every 2-3 hours on really humid days. Drainage hose is a must due to the reservoir in the system is small. You WILL have water buildup on AC settings as well. We still love these units and have used them every summer for the whole summer. No complaints of it being too hot ever.(I did not receive this unit free and I am not paid by or work for this company in any way)

8/3/23 I have a large towel laid that I use to soak up the drainage. It finally released some water. When the towel is saturated, I exchange it for another towel. Still a great unit.8/2/23 Unit still running fine. 77 F is the lowest temp. in prob. 800 sf. I could get in Maryland today and have it turn on/off to save electric.7/26/23 ..with an exchanged unit, set at 73, the drain stayed dry for 85 degree outside temperatures. The rattling of the cage was no longer audible in this replaced unit. The unit was not too loud at all.. Smooth sailing. I upped the stars to five (5).7/14/23 The ONLY problem I had was the cage rattling and the drain happening to often. ..had to exchange the unit. ..picked the unit up the next day, and shipped out a replacement two days later. Keep your box just in case you have to send it in for service or exchange. Stars four (4).

There are some complaints about the noise level. Having an engineering background I will tell you that the noise produced by this portable AC is low in DB’s. We have an open concept home (living room, dining room and kitchen). This unit works fast and very efficient. I used a relative humidity meter in the kitchen to measure efficiency (unit is installed in living room). When I first installed and turned on the unit, the relative humidity was 62% with a room temp of 74deg. Running on high fan, (cooling setting at 68deg), the relative humidity dropped to 54% within 2 hours and the ambient room temp dropped to 70deg! Impressive!I have also used the dehumidification setting and was equally impressed. The square footage that this AC is covering is over 600 sq ft!The install was very easy with great directions. My only complaint? The unit (ALL portable air conditioners in fact) should come with a hose insulator. There is a tremendous amount of cooling loss due to the heat gain in the hose. For an additional $45 I just purchased the Delonghi 6″ hose insulator (zip on). I’ll put up a review after I receive and use it.Highly recommended, after 2 weeks anyways. I’ll update as time goes on.***update***Ok, after a week I do wish that the remote lit up and had the temp displayed. Still highly recommended, just a suggestion to the manufacture.

This was well worth the price over the cheaper options. We’ve had heat waves over 103f lately and this thing plugs along keeping things comfortable.I used a cheap brand long ago for an even smaller space and it was terrible, super loud and couldn’t get the place cooler than mid-80s.My space is 610 square feet and even at 107f it kept the temps down to 71f no problem. I’ve never had a portable AC that could do that. Also it’s black, I wanted one that wasn’t white and that can be difficult to find.Bought a hose cover for the (unfortunately white) tubing, you can find them for under $10 and it also helps keep the temp down from the hose pumping out hot air.

This thing worked great when in the summer when the temperatures were approaching 110+. As far as energy efficiency and the remote control go, I haven’t checked how much my power bill increased since I had started using it, and I don’t use the remote. I have it set to a temperature and keep the fan on “auto” Works great and kept my house at a decent temperature. My only complaint is how short the exhaust hose is. I ended up having to put this unit on a platform so I could route the exhaust hose to the window. Other than that, its a great little unit.

The AC unit has been through 2 moves and plenty of stress but still runs like a champ. The DeLonghi Portable Air Conditioner is one that is portable but I’m normally the one who ports it. (machine is easily 100 lbs but its on wheels. I can deadlife about 375 so it is light to me but I know it would be heavy to others.) I the unit is currently in the main room of the house we are in and it stays about 8 to 10 degrees cooler in the room it is in than the other rooms. You can really feel the difference. So we got a fan that can push the air around and cool the rest of the house. I love this and will look forward to getting another one when i can!

Condo is about 1k SF, long and narrow, 1 floor with 3 bdrms/1 bath. I have 1 unit at the back of the unit near kitchen and aimed down long hallway which is center of unit. I had to wait for a week of excessive heat warnings to review to see how this handled Chicago heat index over 100 degrees with 80+% humidity. It’s great.Setup: The unit is VERY easy to setup. The manual wasn’t as in depth as I would have liked, but the unit works well.Dehumidifier: releases the water captured out the hose connected to the window, so there is no manual disposing of water like I have had in other dehumidifiers. It also cools as if in a/c mode while it is removing the water from the air.A/C: I like the ability to adjust where the air hits, has good angle to make the entire room / space comfortable. There is no jerky loud noise like you get with a window unit as the unit cycles on/off to regulate temperature.Cons:1. You set the temp you want, but the unit doesn’t tell you what the current temperature or humidity % is or how close your unit is getting to the set #.2. I’m not sure if this unit is going to tell me when to clean the filters or if I just need to manually do it every so often. These aren’t that significant to me though and the ease of no longer lifting a super heavy window unit in/out of a frame is great.

10 years ago I’ve purchased my first DeLonghi portable AC unit and I still use it and it works quite well but this year I decided to upgrade and purchased two of these units, and they are simply outstanding. The technology has improved greatly, and these are far more efficient and quiet, they are worth every penny. When I had a minor issue with one of the units, the DeLonghi customer service was superior they were incredibly responsive on two occasions and ensured that everything was good. They’re call center is based in Florida and quite knowledgeable and professional I was quite impressed.
