OVERALLOverall, I really love blinds. There is no longer a sheer hanging down to the floor for the cats to claw at. They are a clean, modern look with the square valance and the covered rod at the bottom. Shipping was very fast, visibility is what I expected and connectivity is awesome. As to price, they are less expensive than some of the bigger name brands such as smart Wings or yoolax. I think these Canisteo blinds are much better value. I will be sticking with this brand for all future, smart, blind purchases.Ordered these blinds in the color white grey. One was 71 inches wide and the other 107 inches wide. Both 6 feet long. Added the square valance. As it turns out, it’s difficult to find light filtering roller blinds, most are light blocking. I had ordered light blocking blinds from Canisteo for two windows that are way too high to reach without a 15 foot ladder. I liked them very much and stuck with the same brand for the light filtering shades that I am reviewing today.SHIPPINGTo begin I was concerned that the 107 inch blind would be too long for delivery, and that it might come in more than one piece. It did in fact come all in one piece, yay!Second, although the posting stated that they wouldn’t arrive for 3 to 4 weeks, both blinds arrived on the same day just over a week after I ordered them. So shipping was awesome.COLORI wasn’t exactly sure what color white gray would turn out to be. The valance is a very light gray. The shade fabric is gray with just a little bit of white in it. It doesn’t look heather, it’s just a very very light gray when you are more than a couple feet away from it, definitely a lighter gray than the valance. we ordered the square metal valance rather than the fabric covered valance. The reason is that the fabric colored valance has white hardware that I felt would look like a stripe going across the top of the window. The metal valance has a little bit of a texture to it, as if it had been sanded before painting. You can’t really see this texture unless you’re standing right next to it, it just looks like a flat finish. However, because it is textured, instead of shiny smooth, I intend to paint this valance, the exact same color as the drywall around it so that it blends in. I consider that a big plus.INSTALL HARDWAREThe 71 inch shade came with three brackets. It went up easily. I was pleased to see that the brackets were mostly metal. Another brand I had ordered recently had much more plastic in the bracket, and we broke one getting it up.Both blinds are inside mount and I should caution potential buyers that the drywall in that area is probably not going to be square! The right side of the smaller window presented that problem. Fortunately the valance had just enough flex that it worked by moving the bracket 10 inches away from the side rather than eight as instructed. The shade still goes up and down without any problems even though the right side is 1/8 inch off of level. The other brand of blinds that I mentioned earlier had the same issue with its window, but it was a quarter inch off. To fix that one I put spacers on the other side so that it was level. So it’s not snug all the way across but apparently I am the only one in the family that’s bothered by that, nobody else even noticed. The larger 107 inch blind came with four brackets. This blind was heavy, and I questioned whether four brackets would be enough. In the end, it went up without a hitch and is snuggly attached. I also note that I went with ceiling mount rather than wall mount.VIEW and NOISEAs to the light filtering abilities, these work very well for our purpose, which is to keep the sun off of furniture and flooring, but still allow us to see out. They are in the front of the house and we need to be able to see when deliveries or guests arrive. The fabric itself isn’t what I would describe as solid as you would voile or organza, or any other fabric shears that hang from a rod. It is, in fact, more like screen. It is rather stiff as you would expect for something that has to roll up and down without stretching or pinching on the tube. As you probably know, black screening tends to disappear as you’re looking through it. white gray screening does not. as a result, we do not have a clear view to the street but we can easily see vehicles and people, the larger things. It’s kind of like looking through fog. I knew it would be that way, and I am perfectly satisfied, but thought I would describe it for other potential buyers.I’ve attached a picture of the blinds. It is raining today and so it’s a little bit darker outside and as a result, a little more difficult to see what’s going on out there. On a sunny day, the view is better.Standing outside and looking in on a sunny day, the view is completely blocked. I never have to worry about still being in my pajamas walking through those rooms because nobody can see me! This blocked outside view is the same regardless of whether it is sunny or raining. of course, at night, when the lights are on inside, people can see in because these are filtering, not blocking. Also, these blinds have very quiet motors. You can hear them, of course, but they move down that 6 foot window pretty fast. It takes 30 seconds top to bottom, two seconds more to roll back up. We have never had our conversation interrupted because of the motor noise. It’s like a fan on low, you can hear it, but after a while, that noise just fades into the background. Our other brand of Shades, conversely, are really loud. We have to turn up the TV when they’re going up and down. So these light filtering shade motors are welcome improvement.CONNECTIVITYThe shades are battery operated. The batteries are not removable, they charge up using a USB-C cord. The cord is eight or 9 feet long, plenty long enough to reach from the shade to a nearby outlet for recharging. The product description says that they won’t overcharge if you leave them plugged in, but I removed the cord after they were fully charged because we need the outlet for other things. The light blocking Canisteo Shades, that I installed earlier, charge in the same way. All of the shades came with remotes. I connected the light blocking remotes to Bond home, which allowed me to then connect to Alexa, and use voice control to raise and lower the shades. But when I ordered the light filtering shades in this review, I also ordered the Tuya gateway. This is a little device that plugs into a USB wall wart. It sticks straight out about 4 inches. It would be really nice if it were vertical instead of horizontal, but it is what it is. I was able to hide this behind a chair so it doesn’t get accidentally bumped. The Tuya device works with the Smart Life app. I have several smart plugs that I run through that app, so it was already installed on my phone. The app had no problem at all, finding the Tuya Gateway. Here is the difference between using the gateway and using Bond home. Bond home can only do what the remote allows it to do. It can open the blinds, it can close the blinds, and if you work with it a little bit, you can get it to move to a single preferred position. For example, I opened the light blocking bedroom shades about 12 inches when the sun comes up. That helps us wake up in the morning without six full feet of sun shining in on us. As to voice control with Bond, you can only open or close the shades. However, Alexa will let you select that preferred position in a routine. You cannot select that position by voice. The Tuya gateway and the Smart Life app gives you a little bit more control. You can ask Alexa to open the shades to 65% or 25%, whatever you want. for example, if you are sitting in a chair next to the shade, and you need a clear view outside, you can ask Alexa to raise the shade 20% so that you can see and then re-close the shade after you have satisfied your curiosity. nobody wants to be that neighbor that always fully whips open their blinds so they can see what’s going on outside. 🙂 sometimes you just wanna peek and you’re done.I have set up these light filtering shades on an Alexa routine. They come down at 9 AM and they go back up at 3:30. That’s the time that the sun is shining into those windows. Obviously you can set up any routine you want or you can make them go up and down every day without a routine. I have never lost connectivity with these blinds. They’ve been up for a week and not once has the routine failed. Same with the light blocking shades connected through the Bond home. It may seem small, but this is actually a big deal. Our smart Lock gateways tend to have intermittent connectivity throughout the day. Sometimes they don’t lock when you expect them to. I have read some reviews that say the Tuya gateway also has intermittent connectivity but that has not been my experience.ADJUSTINGThe open close settings are set by the factory. Each remote is paired to its individual blind. I did not order a multi channel remote. This means that I have to use the correct remote for the blind. If for some reason my Internet goes out and Alexa isn’t working I just set that remote on the windowsill. The remotes come with fairly clear instructions for adjusting the close position. For example, my shorter blind came down to the windowsill and then rolled another half inch. So instead of looking clean and straight, there was a little curve at the bottom. I was able to use the instructions to adjust that close position and eliminate the curve. It didn’t seem to work at first, but after reading the instructions again I saw that you have to unlock the remote before making these adjustments. It also appears that you can set up both blinds to work on the same remote. Of course, this means that when you push the up button, they both go up at the same time. Same with pause and same with close. I’ve not tried this with the light filtering blinds. However, it did work for the light blocking blinds, and they are the same remotes.

This shade is great! I was walking up a ladder to pull down the old manual shade. I had tried pull strings before and they always worked poorly. Thieshade needed to go up high and down low too for this window.I searched the big box home stores for battery powered shades, but the price was way too high. Then I found the Canisteo Smart Blind. Installation was not difficult, but I took my time making sure the mounting clips were very level. Attaching the shade to the clips was quick and easy. The instructions for the remote control were a little confusing to me. I contacted Canisteos customer support and they promptly made it all easy. They followed up on my every question and the next day after my installation, everything was perfect. I may have been overthinking the remote setup. This shade is a real bargain and it easily blocks out the outside light that was shining on my tv screen at night. I will probably purcashe another one soon for my bedroom too.

A pretty smooth experience from start to finish. Out of the box – this is simple and straight forward – no assembly really – just the roller blind unit and the remote control (and a nice long charging cord – thank you!) … installing this was quick! it is light enough that I didn’t have to worry too much about the wall anchors. and the brackets are perfect – this snaps in and out easily. And then the real magic – press the button and behold – almost with a hallelujah chorus – this unfurls and retracts (OK – kind of slowly – for maximum effect, I hope one day I don’t tire of it), and the thickness/sheerness of the shade is perfect. Enough the block the Arizona sunlight and heat without being a blackout curtain. Well done.

Electric shades! These are a great luxurious step up from the old mini blinds. They are easy to install and use. They offer just the right amount of light blocking. Good investment for a window upgrade.
