I find this device a bit tricky to set up. It needs a low-speed WiFi network, and can only be controlled by Alexa using the Smart Home app, and the process is not intuitive. However, once you’ve got it up and running, it works like magic. Mine turns on a stereo, sets it to the proper mode and volume, and plays the music I want to hear when I get home from work three days a week–then turns off at bedtime.I love it!

The media could not be loaded. ** Instructions for adding any button to an Alexa routine at the bottom of my review **PROS- able to be added to Alexa routines- small and sleek- able to control devices spread all over the room- uses standard usb-c (cable included)- my devices were already in the database- can add buttons not in the databaseCONS- none, but it would be nice to add the device straight to the Alexa app, and control all functions straight from the routines menu, but I don’t think any IR device can do this yet.OVERVIEWWOW, this device is awesome, especially when you consider the price. I was surprised by how small the device is (I attached a size comparison with a pen). Setup was pretty easy, I just followed the instructions in the manual, and then connected the smart life skill to use the device with Alexa.MY USE CASEI have this controlling 3 devices: projector, TV, and soundbar. My goal in getting this was to easily transition between using my PS4 while sitting at my desk on my TV, to laying in bed on my projector, and vice versa. This worked out perfectly by using an Alexa routine (see attached video). I was a little worried that a device like this would only emit IR in one direction, similar to a remote, however, it was able to reach 3 devices on separate sides of the room. Amazing! I even pushed it behind my TV and it still works.INSTRUCTIONS TO ADD ANY BUTTON TO AN ALEXA ROUTINEI highly recommend you screenshot this section for later if you intend on using Alexa routines with this product.1. Setup the device as shown in the manual2. Add your device to the smart life app, most devices are already in their database, if it isn’t, choose the most similar device.3. Once the device is added, open the remote for it. If there’s a button that you want that’s not included with the default remote, add a custom button. This will have you point your remote towards the device and hold the button to add, works perfectly.4. Once all the buttons that you want are on the remote in the smart life app, then go to the smart tab in the smart life app and click on the tap-to-run menu. Here you’ll have to create a tap-to-run task for each function that you would like Alexa to receive.5. Once you have all the tap-to-run tasks working within the smart life app, go to the Alexa app, and search for the smart life skill and connect it to your account.6. In the Alexa app, go to the devices tab, click the “+” in the upper right hand corner, tap add device, then scroll to the bottom and tap other. This will pull in all the tap-to-run tasks into Alexa. Alexa will recognize them as scenes, therefore, you will find them in the scenes menu.7. Now you’re ready to create your Alexa routine like normal and just add the appropriate scene to your routine.** if you found this helpful please let me know by clicking ‘helpful’ **

We decided to set up a singing pumpkins display this year, but also made a promise to ourselves we would automate as much as we could this year to save on trudging out in the crappy weather to turn things on and off all season. The sticking point was a projector in a weather-proof housing that does not auto-play. So I sought a solution and this was it!I already have a Smart Life Hub, and a Novostella hub, which control lights around my home year ’round, and my Halloween lighting specifically in fall. I was able to use this WiFi IR to automate turning on the unit, navigating the menus, and hitting play at dusk. When my unit was showing signs of needing a break every 90 minutes or so (to avoid overheating in the enclosure), I was able to automate turning it off for 5 minutes and then going through the power-up process again to restart it several times during the evening, to keep things running smoothly. Not having to go out and turn things on and off every night has been a real improvement in our Halloween haunt routine. It’s a set it and forget it situation now, and I highly recommend it!

Decided to pick one of these up for my bedroom TV. I’ve had a Logitech Harmony hub for my primary TV for quite a while. After getting this one, I set it up with the Smart Life app and was just blown away with how well it worked. It had my Hannspree TV in its database, so I didn’t need any special programming to get that working. The only thing that it didn’t have in the database was my Roku. But it was very easy to add it in. Not only does it have an IR blaster, it also has an IR receiver, which allows it to learn codes from an original device remote. With that, I was able to add all of the Roku functions that I need. After seeing up the devices, it is very easy to make up some smart routines to operate there TV and other items. And just after making the routine, it showed up in the Alexa app.The biggest issue that I have with the Logitech Harmony hub is that it doesn’t seem possible to set a toggle switch for turning things on or off. They required 2 separate actions. Not true with this unit though. You can set it to turn on or off many items. The toggle worked out so well that I decided to set it up with one of my Echo Buttons. Now whenever I want to watch TV or turn it off, I just hit the big button and it does its thing. As for the controller itself, it’s very nice. Compact and plain in appearance, it does a big job. It has a USB C plug and comes with a small USB cable, but no power supply. It has just one small button on it for putting it into pairing mode. Other than that, everything is done through changing settings in the SmartLife app.

I am setting up our house to be integrated with Alexa, and I dont have money to upgrade all of my appliance to smart appliances, so for example we set our older flat screen tv up to be controlled by Alexa through this device. It basically just replaces the remote, we were able to turn the volume and channels up and down, mute, and change the input on the tv, and turn it on and off all through Alexa voice commands. We recently also set this device up to control our projector which is like a random off brand cheapo from Amazon but we were able to easily set it up. We also hooked up our remote controlled speakers to this so we can control it all with Alexa. You can really hook up pretty much any device that comes with a remote, it is a flexible system. If you can’t find your brand, you can “teach it” which buttons are which. The other think I like about this device is that you can hook up multiple devices to it if they are in the same room.

I have a friend who is in pretty bad shape. She is in a nursing home and was unable to control her TV because of severely arthritic hands. She has both an Ipad and an iPhone. Using this device and her Ipad I was able to get her the ability to voice control her TV. She can now, turn it on and off, adjust the volume, and change the channel both one at a time or by calling the channel number. She now uses her iPhone to make and receive hands-free calls via Siri, and her Ipad to control her TV via Alexa. Siri and Alexa are at your service. Set up was a bit tricky but not too bad.

I got tired of not being able to control my fan on my shelf and ceiling. This one device turned anything with a remote into Alexa enabled.I can now set my AC and leave it on fan or turned off when I go to work. If it ends up being hotter in the day and I want the house cooled down, I just go to the app and turn the AC on as I leave work. And it feels great walking into a cool house instead of a hotbox that will take an hour to cool down.

Also pair this baby with a FLIRC for your battle-stations and you can spend some time writting hotkeys for various computer functions and start controlling your computer remotely without ever needing a RDP/VNC! Works really freaking well, and with a bit of technical skills the combination of these two items make for endless possibilities for using your computer when you are away from it.

So far it works just great. I’ve had it for about 3 weeks now and haven’t had any issues. I coupled it was a Merkury 4 port smart plug so I could easily turn on/off the kids’ TV in the basement. The smart plug is needed so I know that the TV is off, as the IR signal can either turn the TV on or off (this is common for most TV remotes and isn’t a fault of the device). My TV, a Vizio that is at least 12 years old, was already known by the device, so setup was simple. There are hundreds of preset devices in the software. So I would assume that most IR controlled devices would work just as easily. The box came with a brown gunk on it (no clue what it was) but the actual controller was in good condition. It integrates well with the Smart Life app. To use it in Google Home, you will need to set up smart automation in Smart Life. One of the other reviews details how to do it and was very helpful.Overall I am happy with it so far.
